Together We Stand Between Teens and Underage Drinking

Early County Family Connection recently partnered with local law enforcement for a Shoulder Tap operation. The Shoulder Tap program is used to determine if adults are willing to purchase alcohol for minors.  During the operation, generally during the evening, a minor decoy, under the direct supervision of law enforcement officers, asks adults outside designated stores to buy alcohol on their behalf. The goals of the program are to make adults aware of the consequences of illegally purchasing or providing alcohol for minors, and more importantly, to educate them on the risks associated with underage drinking and change their perspective.

MEGA Brain: Take a Walk on the Wild Side… Inside a Brain!

Ever wondered exactly how addiction and other diseases affect the brain? Now’s your chance to get a first hand look! 

Early County Family Connection’s GENRx project presents: MEGA Brain, the world’s first traveling, walk-through brain exhibit.  This larger-than-life, anatomically accurate, 20-foot long “brain” teaches visitors about the parts and processes of the brain including the effects of addiction, stroke, brain trauma, depression, disease and even features a clot retrieval device!  Visitors who step inside MEGA Brain are wowed as they wander through the interactive exhibit to learn how the brain works from the inside out.

#MyStory Student Contest on Choosing Abstinence

Ready to win?  “Everyone Has a Story Inside.  Let Yours Out!” is a contest sponsored by Early Choices.  Middle and high school students can submit entries highlighting the empowering aspects of abstinence and/or the consequences of not abstaining, such as unintended pregnancy or an STD. The three formats for entries include a one-minute video, artwork such as a painting or drawing; or, a written story, 500-750 words. Entries can be submitted August 14th – September 14th and the winners will be announced on September 15th.
