Who Needs Parenting Advice?

Ok, who needs some parenting advice?  If you said, “Not me!” – you’re probably not a parent.  We could all use some help along the way in this journey called parenting – it’s not an easy gig.  Every time you think you’ve mastered a phase…your kid moves on to the next (equally challenging) one.  Whether you’re the parent of a special needs kid, multiples, a new born, high school kids or whatever your role may be – Early Choices would like to give you a hand.

Our Early Choices Parenting Initiative is striving to bring answers, ideas and general support to local parents of Early County.  We’re doing this through Facebook Live sessions, guest bloggers, open forums and workshops.  We hope that you’ll take advantage of all of these free, helpful resources that can give you some peace of mind and build your confidence as a parent.  Come back here to our website often to check out new blogs and events – and check our Facebook page daily!  We’re always posting uplifting stories, announcing events and giving advice.

For now, here are a few ideas just to keep things simple at home!

  • Don’t be a “fixer.” Every now and then, it’s perfectly fine to let your kids fail.  This is life – and it’s going to happen.  Fight the urge to pave the way for an easy road…kids need to learn life lessons from time to time.
  • Be positive. Even when you’re tired, stressed and have just plain had it, try to be positive around your kids.  They play off of the vibe you’re giving…so the more optimistic and positive you can be, the better off they will be.  Take time to write down things you’re thankful for, and the GOOD things that happened during the day.  Get your kids to do it too.  It’ll turn that negativity around quickly.
  • Spend one-on-one time with each of your kids. As busy as we all are, this can be a tough one.  But make time for each of your kids.  Whether it’s a bike ride, a lunch date, reading a book together or even just going out for ice cream – this lets your kids know that they are a priority to you and builds their self-esteem.  And put down the phones while you’re spending time together!

Alright, go get ‘em, parents!  And check back here often for more “tips of the trade.”
